LAS VEGAS – Twenty-three individuals received their Tribal Governance Professional (TGP) Certification on December 11, 2025, marking a significant advancement in Tribal leadership and governance education. Two additional individuals are expected to complete their certification later this month.
The TGP certification program was developed by KOSO Strategies (KOSO) in partnership with the Tribal Leadership Council (TLC) to strengthen governance capacity and professional development within Tribal communities. The certification represents comprehensive training in Tribal governance principles, best practices, and leadership skills essential for effective Tribal administration.
“This achievement represents a new generation of trained professionals who are equipped to serve their Tribal communities with excellence and integrity,” said Justin Barrett, TLC President. “The TGP certification ensures that Tribal governance professionals have the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex challenges facing Indian Country today.”
The program addresses critical needs in Tribal governance by providing structured professional development that combines traditional knowledge with contemporary governance practices.
“We created the TGP certification to honor the unique sovereignty and governance needs of Tribal nations while establishing professional standards that elevate the field,” said Ernest Vargas, Jr., Founding Director of KOSO. “The newly certified professionals are now part of a growing network of leaders committed to strengthening Tribal self-determination and advancing Tribal governance excellence.”
The certification program covers essential areas including Tribal sovereignty, strategic leadership, crisis management, and financial stewardship.
